Property Owners Insurance – Let’s simplify it

This presentation is being supported by WTW & Everest’s Property Owners Facility (Propsure), and will deal with Property Owners Insurance and explain the covers and features of Property Owners products on the market.

Brendan O’Mahony will explain the need for Property Owners insurance, the different sections of a typical policy, the covers provided and some of the options available to the Insured/Broker.  The presentation is divided into four sections.

• The Property Damage section will explain the basis of cover, what can be insured and typical exclusions are identified.
• The Loss of Rent cover is explained including Sums Insured and Indemnity periods that apply.
• In the Liability section EL & PL are considered. Brendan will explain the basis of covers, limits of indemnity together with exclusions that apply to typical Property Owner policies on the Irish market.
• Finally, the presentation will consider the effect of CICA on this and similar products.

This presentation should be of interest of brokers involved in Commercial Insurance, especially those involved in arranging Property Owners risks.

Meet Brendan O’Mahony

Brendan O’Mahony, FCII, IATI, commenced his career with Sun Alliance Insurance Co (now RSA) in Cork.  He has worked in Cork, Dublin, Limerick, Sligo and Galway with RSA in various underwriting, sales and surveying roles.  He holds the top insurance qualification as a Fellow of the Chartered Insurance Institute and is also qualified as an Accounting Technician and in the area of Teaching, Learning & Assessment.

In 2014 Brendan left RSA and set up O’Mahony Training which provides Insurance Lectures & Risk Surveys.  He provides training and completes surveys for both Insurers and Brokers.

Brendan commenced lecturing at IT Sligo (now ATU) with the launch of the Insurance Apprentice Programme in 2016 and is the Chair of the Programme Board for this course.

Brendan is a past president of the Insurance Institute of Sligo and has presented several CPD lectures to brokers and insurance institutes throughout the country.

In addition, he lecturers in CIP and MDI subjects for the Insurance Institute of Ireland and is also involved with exam reviews and wider educational projects on behalf of the III.  He works closely with the Chartered Insurance Institute in London in relation to Fellowship matters.
